About this deal

Before I start diving into the nitty gritty, I want to state that my experience with hard-boiled detective novels is very slim. A book begging to be read on the beach, with the sun warming the sand and salt in the air: pure escapism.

As Sounder follows the breadcrumbs, the underbelly of the Titan world is exposed, the violence escalates and Sounder starts to understand that he is a pawn in a much bigger game. The story is told in a self-consciously Noir style that I enjoyed - think Raymond Chandler but replace the misogyny with dry, sometimes self-effacing humour. A secure home is the first step in addressing the cruel cycle of poverty to ensure people can fulfil their potential. If “Titanium Noir” turns out to be the first book in a series of Sounder’s adventures in a land of great science and a terrible GINI coefficient, I’d welcome more. Three quarters of the problems they get asked to solve they can't, and shouldn't have to, and don't know how.is the only food apart from lobster where a grown man is permitted to wear a bib without criticism”) to pepper Harkaway’s tale. Yet, he relentlessly pursues the truth, flirts with rebellion and even performs some mild blackmail on the way.

With its likable narrator, explosive action, noir-style rumination and just the right amount of twists, Titanium Noir is an entertaining sci-fi mystery that never overstays its welcome. Cal’s sardonic and witty internal monologue helps keep the reader from losing track of important details, with Cal himself acting as a necessary anchor as Harkaway introduces new characters and reveals new plot points on nearly every page. Nick Harkaway finally delivers a follow up act to Gnomon (an absolutely incredible novel) with a much tighter, quieter, and fun novel. His ex-girlfriend and femme fatale is Athena, a Titan herself, and no less, Stefan Tonfamesca’s daughter and heir to his empire. However, there is room at the end of the book for a sequel and it’s possible that he could become more interesting. They're admired, envied, and hated, and they tend to keep to themselves, particularly after a few rounds of T7 treatment.
