About this deal

I still have so much to learn and my next big project is a beautiful sweater for my husband, so the extra tips and tricks were greatly appreciated. But first, as has been widely discussed of late within the knitting community, the world of knitting is distinctly lacking in diversity.

Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Knitting Book, Completely

With updated, revised, and new material throughout, more than 70 additional pages, and more than 1,600 photos and hand-drawn step-by-step illustrations, Vogue Knitting: The Ultimate Knitting Book, Completely Revised and Updated is surprisingly easy to navigate with thorough indexing and footnote cross-referencing. Although I accept free products for review, I do not accept additional compensation, nor do I guarantee a positive review.I'm familiar with the previous editions of the book, but this one is so much better and offers so much more.

This isn't at all to say this isn't a worthwhile reference--I would highly recommend it, it's very well modernized from the previous two versions. because I feel like the pictures showing you how to knit can be confusing so I end up looking them up on YouTube half the time.I love the drawn techniques; they make so much more sense to me than descriptions or even watching YouTube videos. This is an amazing resource that covers every aspect of knitting you can think of, in enough detail to get you own your way. As an example, the entrelac section in Directional Knitting includes the page number of different stitches that are used with entrelac so you can refer back to those instructions. Thus while this book is a great addition to any knitters library, for particular techniques, supplementary references are also still the go.

The only think I would have liked in addition would be simple example patterns of things like socks or sweaters. Cross referencing to related techniques is at each page bottom which is good if you've forgotten which page something was on! With updated, revised, and fresh material throughout, 65 additional pages, and more than 1,600 photos and hand-drawn step-by-step illustrations , Vogue Knitting The Ultimate Knitting Book is surprisingly easy to navigate with thorough indexing and footnote cross-referencing. had i known i already possess all this information either in my head or on my bookcase i wouldn't have bought another one, or i would have waited and sprung for an e-book/pdf version i could pull up on my phone wherever i happened to be at the time i needed to look something up.For easy patterns to try when you’re starting out, it is often best to head to Ravelry, an online community for knitters and crocheters where you can find thousands of patterns for free or just a few dollars. The clear instructions in this are helping me get my head around this trickier knitting: Custom Socks: knit to fit your feet. Starting with a history of the craft, Vogue takes the reader through basics like casting on and casting off, but gives overviews of more complicated things like colour knitting, stitch patterns, knitting styles, and finishing techniques. Like reading Nigel Slater’s Christmas Chroniclesor sinking deep into Samin Nosrat’s Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, there are people out there like Karie Westermann writing fascinating meditations on knitting, craft, feminism, and politics in her book This Thing of Paper that show the true power of knitting as a political and feminist act. First published in 1989, Vogue Knitting The Ultimate Knitting Book instantly became a beloved resource for knitters.

I have been knitting for a long time but I am a slow knitter so am definitely not as skillful as I should be.

Existing reviews already confirm that this is an excellent resource for knitters of all levels and has buckets of useful information. While the title of the book could make you think this is the only book you'll need, there is a lack of explanation on alternate names for some techniques and some common stitch names, for instance with brioche knitting where the more common brk's and brp's (barks and burps) that are most commonly used are not seen.
