Because it’s frankly insane that wireless headphones could cost this little, not to mention a pair like the Sony WH-CH510 that has decent sound, a USB-C port, and 35 hours of battery life. We recommend saving up for something better than the Sony WH-CH510, namely something like the Anker Q30, or even reach for the Sony WH-CH710N. If your headphones are running low on power, a 10-minute quick charge will give you up to 90 minutes of play. The Sony WH-CH510 doesn’t even work with the Sony Headphones app, so there’s no way to tinker with which features you have enabled.You may want to cancel out noise on your daily commute, during a flight, or block out noisy neighbours.

Additionally, some fricatives and sibilants ( f, s, sh, z, zh) will sound unusually quiet in vocals. It’s more comfortable than many cheaper headphones, but it creaks and groans when bent because of the quality of plastic in the band. This is a standard feature of most Bluetooth headphones, and it’s an extreme rarity that it malfunctions. On the back of the right ear cup, there’s a physical button cluster that contains a power/multifunction button, as well as volume up and volume down buttons.

The lightweight design and swivel earcups mean you can slip your headphones into a bag when you’re on the move. When you pair a second or subsequent device (the headset has pairing information for other devices), press and hold the (power) button for about 7 seconds. This makes the Sony WH-CH510 considerably more compact, but arguably a little less comfortable (it also impacts the audio quality, but more on that later).
