About this deal

Neo-classic British EQ brings back the warmth and musicality of those 60s and 70s mega-console desks that made music history.

The only way to do this is to either turn the volume down or turn the gain down, and it's not easy to bring those faders back to their exact location each time. In my case, I'm using the monitor output (pre-fade) for boom feed and FX feed (post fade) for director. The compact XENYX 1002B mixer also features our highly musical 3-band British EQ, plus an FX and monitor send for each channel, making it a must-have for any audio toolkit.

a Studer / Revox 6 channel jobbie that is supposed to have super sweet preamps and all types of direct outputs, slate ability, etc. The opamps are surface mount, but most other components are through hole and are relatively easy to solder onto.

The dual jacks on the mono channels (1,2) are there so that one is a line input, and the other is an insert so you can add processing such as an equaliser, compressor or effects unit.

Two PP3s give a nominal 18V, The 9V for the rest of the mixer is pretty low and I suspect it has pretty poor headroom. For outputs I currently I have the headphone out going to my speakers, and the main output going to my audio interface (a presonus studio 24c) for recording. I didn't recognize the opamps in use, but after listening to it, was quite surprised by its sound quality. I’ve got it loaded with three 9V batteries (600 mAh Lithium-ion rechargeable) and can get 9 hours of use from a full charge - that should be plenty for most outdoor gigs, weddings, etc. Detent on pots/knobs was a quality move, and the gain needed for most mics was nice n strong, with a really low-noise ratio.
