The 2022 potato harvest across the UK and Europe has been impacted by the very dry, exceptionally hot weather this summer. We also appreciate that we can just pick up the phone and ask questions if we need to, and we can only see this relationship growing stronger in time. We even grow own special varieties of crisping potatoes which are hand cooked on the farm to the highest possible standards to make our delicious crisps which are gluten free and available in over 10 flavours.
Produced from crisping potatoes which are grown, harvested, and handcooked at our family farm in Essex, then delivered to your from door. We really believe that to understand a small business like ours you need to see it for yourself, and so visits from our contacts at the East of England Co-op to the family farm are always welcome. For example, when harvest is finished, we’re planting non-food crops which maintain soil integrity rather than ploughing and leaving fields, which releases carbon into the air. Enjoy the flavour of delicious beef and farm-fresh potatoes on the go with our Roast Rib of Beef hand cooked crisps – AND they’re vegan! In fact we export to about 20 countries including Mauritius, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Dubai, Germany, Norway, USA and Canada.
The traditional potato crisps have proved so successful that the Strathern’s have also branched out into vegetable crisp production as well, including parsnip crisps flavoured with Essex honey and black pepper. We harvest twelve different potato varieties, maize and rye on beautiful farmland across the Colne Valley just north of Colchester in Essex. We’ve come out of the pandemic in a strong position to grow, and we’ve made investments on the farm to help us along – new lines to wash potatoes, and new equipment to make our factory more efficient. These delicious sweet chilli flavoured potato crisps have been homegrown and handcooked on Fairfields Farm so you can enjoy every crunchy bite with a sweet but fiery chilli flavour that we all love!
We’re Laura and Robert Strathern, a third-generation farming family growing potatoes, and producers of award-winning crisps right here on the farm.We also grow our own special varieties of crisping potatoes which are hand cooked on the farm to the highest possible standards which is why we’re BRC (Grade AA) accredited. Potatoes, Oil (Sunflower or Rapeseed Oil in varying proportions), Cyder Vinegar Powder, Sea Salt, Maltodextrin, Rice Flour, Citric Acid, Yeast Extract Powder. These are then delivered from our farm across the UK to retailers, wholesalers and our consumers’ front doors! This year, we’re really putting focus on the little things that add up and can help us achieve an overall ambition to be carbon neutral. While we make every effort to deliver on your preferred date, shipments may arrive one day either side of your selected day during busy periods.
