About this deal

Once the joint is totally full, put the gun to one side and then wet your finger and run it over the joint to smooth it off and remove any excess caulk.

Despite the above they are still a decent cheap solution and if you’re feeling brave you can even make your own!

As we have already mentioned above, the mitre joint is a fantastic method of forming timber joints for skirting boards, architrave etc but it’s not necessarily a joint that should be used for anything structural.

Now that we know exactly what a this joint is and how they are generally used, lets look at how to cut one and what tools can be used. Key specs – Bevel capacity: 0-45 degrees; Blade size: 210mm; No-load speed: 4,200rpm; Weight: 7.9kg One of the most important factors that will determine how accurate and successfully your joint is, as with many other DIY jobs, is your initial measuring and marking out. Rotate the cutter so that the tongue is in its furthest forward position and set the fence so that the centreline on the test piece is lined up with the outside edge of the tongue. These are large 1/2in shank cutters and require a powerful variable-speed router mounted in a table. The two largest should be run at 10,000 rpm maximum. All three give cleaner cuts on long grain than on end grain, where you will get a lot of breakout.
