Munich Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest (beer festival and travelling funfair). Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than six million people from around the world attending the event every year. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since 1810. Other cities across the world also hold their own Oktoberfest celebrations, modeled after the original Munich event. Along with The Three J’s, Bamboo Acres has some four-legged part owners. Angelina Jolie, their Rat Terrier child/dog, greets every guest personally upon arrival. Friendly outdoor cats are Leo, Mama Callie, and Boostie each have big personalities and will make appearances whenever they feel like it. Also, w.r.t. preserving his dignity: It's not undignified to be into someone who's not into you. Unfortunate, but not undignified. If you approach a conversation about it with empathy and respect (and yet still firm boundaries) no one has to have their pride hurt. If he's the type of guy who would have his pride hurt because you're not into him--again, don't go. The owners, partners in business and life, are known to their friends as The 3 J’s. Jeff, John, and Joe. They like to stay in places where they can be themselves, and that is why they opened Bamboo Acres. July 1975 was my first Pride march. I’d recently started my undergraduate studies at SOAS, and taken my first tentative steps out of the closet. Even if there were only about 200 of us marching on a wet Saturday to Shepherd’s Bush, the experience was truly exhilarating. It felt great to be out and proud – to be joining in in the chant of “Two, four, six, eight! Gay is just as good as straight!”

This area of Oregon, like much of the West coast right now, is under a severe drought advisory. Bamboo Acres takes water conservation seriously, and asks you to reasonably limit your time showering and to pee outside. Reservations & Your Stay The tent’s name comes from Rose, the daughter of a brewer and member of the Pschorr family–you can find her lifting her beer in the picture on the front of the tent. This tent holds the distinction of being the first to be lit with electricity (thank you science!) in 1901 and was at one time (in 1913) the largest Oktoberfest beer tent ever constructed–with room for over 12,000 thirsty people. It’s one of the biggest street parties in Europe, and part of the London Summer for the LGBTQ+ community and a huge army of allies. Pride now involves a whole month of activity simply because we have so much to celebrate. But the fight is far from over – homophobic and transphobic violence is again on the rise, we must ban “conversion therapies”, and we should never forget that in so many countries LGBTQ+ people face extreme prejudice and legal discrimination up to and including the death penalty. This sense of togetherness was a key driver to creating PROUD@LBS with Peter. Networks like this are important – they amplify the voices of those who are often marginalised or silenced, allowing us to tell our stories and explain why Pride isn’t just a parade, or a few weeks in June, or an opportunity for brands to show they ‘care’.
