About this deal

After patiently waiting 24 hours, this is where things get a bit fiddly. It also gets a bit difficult to explain using the power of words… so if none of this make sense, the video is at the top of this post. This tip is especially important for those with foam surfboards. GoPro has mentioned their surfboard mounts don’t bond as well with foam surfboards (so basically definitely get one of these things). By far my favourite GoPro surfing accessory – the Max Lens Mod is a new addition, fitting the GoPro Hero 9 and GoPro Hero 10. It gives the GoPro a huge 155 degree field of vision (super wide angle if you don’t know the techy talk!) but more importantly gives you access to some epic horizon levelling – which open up some awesome creative shots. This can create a cool effect when added to your video, it will help viewers focus their attention where you want it. 6. Switch up your angle and field of view

One further point is that, if you are in barreling waves and ready to ride them, a GoPro at the front of your board facing forwards will not capture the barrel as it is so far forward, so you will miss out on that view. Rear-facing For example, a video captured in the standard GoPro color will be less flexible in editing than footage captured in Protune “Camera Raw” or “Protune Flat”. This product doesn’t use adhesives. Instead, it uses a tool that needs to be screwed right through your board, making it a sturdier and more secure GoPro mount. (So unless you want to drill a hole in your surfboard using a screwdriver, you might want to skip this product.)

When you’re riding the wave shooting toward the beach, rather than holding your arm stretched out in front of you, bring the camera in and press it against your chin. 10. Use a waterproof housing Now you’re ready to tether your GoPro, I’m going to take you through two methods (again, it might be easier to watch the video above for this next bit). Doing that while incorporating different angles (facing the beach, the open water, you…) will keep your footage lively and interesting. This angle really gives the viewer a clear perspective of how it is to ride and also gives you some really nice footage to remember your surf by. Think about the story you want to tell: plan the start, middle, and end. Writing your outline down can make things easier.

It’ll keep your hands free, and help you capture some great angles. It’s as close as you can get to showing friends what things look like from your viewpoint.

GoPro Surf Mount – ASURF-001

Installing mounts doesn’t need to be complicated, that’s why the Hooshion Surfboard Mount Kit comes with straightforward tools and instructions so you can easily attach your mount on any kind of surfboard. Removing the surfboard mount is an easier process as you will only need a hairdryer to apply heat. This will loosen the adhesive, making it easier to peel off the surfboard.

If you’re going through this process with the idea of hitting the waves straight after, that’s up to you. BUT, if you don’t wait the 24 hours there is a higher chance of your surfboard mount and shiny GoPro falling off. You have been warned. The ‘Recommended by GoPro’ method– Best possible way to attach your GoPro to your surfboard mount but is dependent on the GoPro model and/or GoPro case you have. Take the standard shot a step further with a helmet extension arm and get the nose of the board included in the shot as well for a more creative take on it. Get super creative by placing the main GoPro surfboard mount underneath the nose of your board then team up the extension arm with the Max Lens Mod for some epic angles and a personal favourite of mine. Hand HeldYou can mount a GoPro on a soft-top but this needs a special type of mount that does not come with your GoPro, as I’ll explain below. Water drops can ruin your footage. You can get water drops or condensation on the GoPro lens itself and on the inside/outside of the waterproof housing. Carrying your GoPro using a mouth mount in the surf is a great option for capturing the vibe and the feeling of surfing.

However, you should take note that GoPros mounted on a surfboard doesn’t always take the most awesome videos. Sky-high waves tend to look flat when their shots are taken from a surfboard’s point of view; making your shots a bit pointless since no one will believe you’ve surfed those waves you’re bragging about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnk9pbR2-6Q Video can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Glassy Gliders at Llangennith Friday 16th March 2018 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnk9pbR2-6Q)

Help & Info

Surfers can be an egoistic bunch. We like to watch and relive our best performances. We also like to boast about the biggest waves we’ve ever ridden to other surfers — and what better evidence is there other than a video you’ve captured yourself? Superview– that nice wide angel for great POV shots and capturing the whole scene whilst still offering slow mo in post production Having a GoPro mounted on the rear of your surfboard might sound like a good idea but, in practice, it’s actually much harder than it sounds.
