About this deal

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition Title Update Notes 1.02 (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch) Fixed an issue where Pay ‘N’ Spray doors were closed preventing the player from being able to enter The poor reception of the Trilogy DE might be a reason behind that decision. #GTAIV #RDR1— Tez2 (@TezFunz2) July 4, 2022 Speeding is difficult because vehicles in traffic go from 0 opacity to 100 in a second, affecting both gameplay and immersion.

Playing GTA on a dedicated handheld again has been a distant dream ever since the PSP releases of GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Vice City Stories 2005. The Switch should have been the perfect platform to realize those halcyon days, with improved performance and graphics to boot. Instead, we’ve been given shoddy ports that either shouldn’t have been released on Nintendo’s platform or delayed until performance could be significantly improved. We had to pause and turn the brightness level to max then reduce the contrast to zero just to make the picture look acceptable first of all.." And for those interested in the half-assed "physical" release, you're looking at about 12.1GB in "updates". 1GB for GTAIII, 5GB for Vice City (which is unplayable without), and 6.1GB for San Andreas. The latter is particularly ironic, because the "update" alone is bigger than the entirety of Vice City (how?). Noted very few bugs owing to the time I could spend. Car doors opening through your character, getting sunk knees down in the sidewalk are frequent ones. GTA 3 originally took up a svelte 1.569 GB (well, the PS2 version on PS4 did, anyway) whereas the new version weighs in at 5.293 GB. GTA: Vice City has an even bigger jump, increasing from 2.392 GB originally to 10.768 GB. GTA: San Andreas has the biggest change, though – quite literally; what started as 3.230 GB will soon take up 22.679 GB. This feels absurd especially since GTA Online is readily available on almost all modern home console like the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Is GTA 5 Coming To Nintendo Switch In 2023?

Fixed an issue where the game would crash when entering a vehicle after completing Triad War (Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One) Fixed an issue where players were unable to rotate the camera up or down while driving at high speeds But it’s not just a criminally low resolution that Switch players have to stomach in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition. The game’s performance is – to put it lightly – unacceptable. Fixed an issue where the camera is incorrectly positioned when returning to gameplay after finding Sweet in the mission Reuniting the Families Driving through the streets in all three games is a nightmarish and sluggish experience as the framerate fluctuates wildly, dropping into the low twenties. GTA: San Andreas seems to have the best performance of the bunch, but it still can’t hold its target framerate for very long. One thing about this fiasco of a release is I learned that even if it came out 100% as intended, it's just not the versions of these classics I'm looking for. This should have either been unadulterated ports of the most up to date versions of the games fans have played for the last twenty years, or from-the-ground-up remakes that meet today's standards for graphics, writing and gameplay. Even if the "definitive editions" weren't completely broken, they are neither accurate enough to satisfy my sense of nostalgia, nor improved enough to be enjoyable in their own right.

Well, as of right now, the trilogy has reached version 1.07 through a series of patches and updates, and sitting down to spend some time with all three the results so far are fairly reasonable.

Fixed an issue where the player would fail the mission The Thieves with a message “A thief’s dead” after the cutscene plays
