One of my new favorite spring books is The Enormous Turnip. It is an old folktale about a farmer who plants a turnip seed. The turnip grows so big that the farmer can’t harvest it himself. So, he enlists the help of friends and family in a story that points out the importance of teamwork.

It is retold as "The Turnip" by Barbara Suwyn in the World Folklore Series' The Magic Egg and Other Tales from Ukraine (1997), edited by Natalie Kononenko. [3] The Enormous Turnip is about an elderly farmer couple who are struggling to remove an enormous turnip from their field.
