As you move farther away on the circle, the cavesson allows you to still be able to play with balance. You horse now has a free-flowing line from their poll all the way through to their hind legs, giving you a more precise ability for communication. The cavesson also allows you to see the position of your horse’s natural head carriage. It doesn’t create head height, but shows where your horse’s natural head height is.

How it works – Similar to a chambon, it works on your horse’s poll and mouth to encourage him to lengthen his topline. During the first training of a green horse, Guérinière did not use a snaffle but he used a cavesson instead. So if we start to condemn a cavesson or its noseband we should look at ourselves first, because it’s always the human behind the tool! Ground work can be used specifically to b uild up the horse's muscles. In addition, ground work exercises with horses teach balance and concentration. The basis of all exercises is mutual trust, safety and respect. The best way to practise this is from the ground. Body language and the right accessories are crucial. Only with the right ground work accessories can you work safely and efficiently from the ground. Ground work is a broad term, it includes all activities where the human communicates with the horse from the ground. I like to eventually have the horse walking and trotting large, changing the rein on the figure of eight and on the circle, and doing serpentines and transitions to halt.” TIP: Working a horse on the lunge is more intense than riding, so don’t overdo it. Five to 10 minutes equally on each rein with plenty of walk breaks is sufficient for a lunge session. As your horse’s fitness improves, you can increase the time.
