About this deal

While I know not everyone has access to a 3D printer or has the time and patience to spend well over 200 hours printing and assembling their own DIY NAS case, what other thoughts do you guys have on my favorite DIY NAS cases?

But I’m totally terrified of this alerts on my own Synology Servers and my clients servers too. Join the Inner Circle? If you don't mind fan noise, put a high-speed fan in there and you could keep a higher-wattage CPU fairly cool. Good to see that some brands still know what’s what, and know what to focus on, while others have become a proprietary circus act, defecating all over their customers. NAS Cases as of 2019 | Butter, What?! Brian’s Top Three DIY NAS Cases as of 2019 | Butter, What?!

The original thought was to go with an Intel Atom C3000 series solution. We could get 16 cores, 10GbE, and have a very low power server. Gigabyte MA10 ST0 Top As we saw in our FreeNAS Mini XL Plus Review 8-bays and 10GbE, the 8-bay FreeNAS platform works very well, so we wanted to replicate in a system with larger fans. One major note here is that the CS381 is a 28L design measuring 400mm (W) x 225mm (H) x 316mm (D) or 15.75″ (W) x 8.86″ (H) x 12.44″ (D). It feels like a large system even though it is based around a mATX size motherboard. Motherboard and CPU Selection

The PRIME H610I- PLUS D4- CSM motherboard is perfect for a home NAS server. It accepts Intel 12th Generation Core i7, i5, i3, Pentium and Celeron CPUs in a 10nm process so plenty of choices. It has a PCIe x16 slot for the RAID card, supports up to 64GB DDR4 Non- ECC RAM running at 3200Mhz, an M.2 PCIe x4, Gigabit LAN, and 4x SATA- III 6Gbp/s ports along with other standard ports. Processor/CPU Fractal Design Node 804 ( specs): Is a bit larger but also supports Micro ATX motherboards, which opens up a whole new form factor of potential motherboards to consider. It has internal 8 x 3.5” HDD bays, 2 x 2.5” HDD bays, and it’s very price competitive, which makes it a very attractive option to consider. To all other reviewers credit, you will find sharp edges in this case working with it. But overall, it's no different than many of the other cases I've worked with. For AMD, the best choices are Ryzen 3/5/7/Athlon designated with “E” for low wattage and power efficiency (example: AMD Ryzen 3 3200GE or Athlon Gold 3150GE) There are no SSD mounting locations in the MB tray, but there is space along the sides of the compartment to mount SSDs with double-sided tape, which is what I have done. It's not likely you'll be moving this case around, so double-sided tape on SSDs that weigh like 1 ounce works just fine. I have 2 SSDs mounted and could fit in a third without too much hassle.
